*Carmine: A Little More Red by Melissa Sweet 2005
"Melissa Sweet said that trying to write this, her first book, was initially like walking around the Library of Congress. But then a love of words (like pluck, dawdle, trouble, and viola) took over." (Book Jacket). This mixed-medium collage-style book recounts the fractured fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood. Unusal words which add punch and drama to the story are enlarged and intwined in the illustrative style. These words would be excellent to manipulate . . . remove, replace and emphasize. Here are a few terrific snippits.

"Some people DILLY-DALLY once in a while, but Carmine made a habit of it. Carmine's mother reminded her to go directly there, please. No dawdling."

"Most wolves practice the fine art of LURKING"

USUALLY the neightbors are home and would have heard Granny's cry for help.

If you have an example of writing that focuses on just one of the traits, that would be wonderful! If you have a finished piece where you've polished ALL SIX TRAITS, that would be wonderful as well.

6 Trait Resources at the Curriculum Resources Center

The Curriculum Resources Center at Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas received an Interlibrary Loan Development Program Grant for 2005-2006 to procure '6 Traits of Reading and Writing' educational resources to share with our patrons as well as patrons across the state. These items are available through the Curriculum Resources Center, libraries who participate in interlibrary loan programs, and the Kansas Library Catalog.
